Why Hot Pilates is the best winter workoutttadminDecember 21, 2019Culture0 Comments 02 min read Many of us are familiar with the health benefits of pilates- some of which are improved flexibility, muscle toning and strengthening and better balance. However, what not many of us are aware of is that the exact same exercise can burn way more calories and get faster results, if performed in a heated room! What is the science behind the heat and why would one choose to sweat 5x more in a sweltering room in comparison to standard pilates? This is because a room with higher temperature (usually between 95 to 100 degrees) increases your heart rate and thus, intensifies the workout. Furthermore, given the nature of Pilates’ mat-based endurance movements- it is an ideal exercise to be done in a heated environment. Hot pilates especially feels great in the winter when our muscles are tight and rigid. The heat helps loosen up the muscles quicker and increases the oxygen in our blood circulation. The heat further assists in deepening the range of movement, leading to increased flexibility. However, it’s crucial for everyone to assess their bodies individually and be aware of their limitations. People who get dehydrated easily should probably avoid this kind of exercise as the heat can lead to minor side effects such as headaches. Also, people with any kind of heart problems should try avoid workouts in such high temperatures. Like any kind of exercise, it has its pros and cons but for those who blindly swear by Pilates(and I know way too many women who do), it’s more effective when done hot!! ‘Hot Pilates’ and ‘Inferno Pilates’ are particularly famous studios in LA, where many of Hollywood’s familiar faces are seen swarming in and out for a hot morning workout. From Pilates 101 for basics to the Pilates Powerhouse masterclass- these studios’ signature one-hour classes leave you sweating and reinvigorated. It’s time to get hot! ttadminStay connected on the freshest stories shaping the world of food, travel, vetted luxury and more. Follow me on socials:
